Marikaは日米のハーフで、幼少期をアメリカで過ごし、20歳頃に複雑性PTSDを発症。成長過程で「女性」、「外国人」、「障害」であることの体験と向き合った結果、現在、自身を「日本社会不適合者」と位置づけている。

複雑性PTSDにより、長年にわたって築いてきた価値観や信念が崩れ落ちる経験をしたMarikaは、この経験をきっかけに、自分と向き合うため、2020年に台湾へ移住した。日本から離れることで日本社会が抱える「つながりの希薄さ」や「マイノリティへの支援不足」の課題が見え、台湾で3年間、アイデンティティーの再構築を経て、再び日本へ帰国し、現在は東京と沖縄の二拠点で活動をしている。

自身が見えた日本社会の課題がキャリアの原動力となっており、東京では、デジタルデザインメディア- Spectrum Tokyoに関わりながら、沖縄では、ひとどりCommunity Houseの創設者として運営に携わっている。
どちらも自由で枠にはまらないカルチャーを人と共有することを大切にしている。Marikaは、こうした仕事を通じて、自身のためだけでなく、同じように違和感を抱える人々のために、社会を変えていきたいと考えている。

Marika is a half-Japanese, half-American who spent her childhood in America and developed complex PTSD around the age of 20. Through her experiences as a "woman," "foreigner," and "person with disabilities" while growing up, she now identifies herself as an "Outcast of Japanese society."

Experiencing a crumbling of the values and beliefs she had built over the years due to complex PTSD, Marika moved to Taiwan in 2020 to confront herself. By distancing herself from Japan, she could see the issues of "weak social connections" and "lack of support for minorities" in Japanese society. After three years of rebuilding her identity in Taiwan, she returned to Japan and is currently active in both Tokyo and Okinawa.

The challenges she saw in Japanese society have become the driving force of her career. While involved with the digital design media - Spectrum Tokyo in Tokyo, she also operates Hitoridori Community House as its founder in Okinawa. She values sharing cultures that are free and unbound with others. Through these works, Marika hopes to change society not only for herself but also for others who similarly feel out of place.
